On a slippery slope

This terroir came into being in the Middle Ages following a landslide towards the lake. According to legend, the ancient winegrowing village of Épesses fell one hundred metres without sustaining the slightest damage. It’s also said that the village billy goat ("bouc") was left tied up to his post above the landslide, calling out to the nanny goats slipping away from him. This may be why people from Épesses are nicknamed Boucs today!

Taste the wines

The bottles and/or labels of these three wines – and the wines themselves – illustrate this aspect. Usually these wines are sold only at the winegrower’s cellar, but now you can also buy in the Office des Vins Vaudois online store.

An exceptional microclimate and rich soils

This winegrowing area has a unique microclimate, as well as clayey soil with a high mineral content. With plenty of lakeshore sunlight, the vines flourish in an idyllic environment encapsulating all the riches of the terroir. The soil consists mainly of clayey limestone marl, favourable to noble varieties such as Chasselas – a geological makeup that gives the wines their distinctive mineral note, remarkable freshness, and subtle aromatic complexity.
